Pilates Teacher Training Courses in Norfolk, VA
PIA Licensee, Mari Dawson, PMA-CPT
Mari’s discovery of pilates changed her path in life. As an athlete throughout her youth the body began to feel its toll. During the first few months of personal pilates training the pain was relieved and the whole body was being healed. She could not replace the way her body felt by any other movement. A year later, by the guidance of her instructor, she decided to go train first in Cary, NC for Power Pilates Mat Certification with Triangle Pilates and then continued on to Michael Wright at the Body College Pilates in Washington DC. She completed Physicalmind Institute Comprehensive Pilates training in 2005 and became a PMA© Certified Pilates Instructor through the Pilates Method Alliance in 2006 and 2015. She studies and continues to study with Master trainers during her continued education and has been teaching full time for the past 10 years.
Now a co-owner of CoreVelo Pilates Studio with Vicki Pittman, the two have great dreams for the future of pilates on Norfolk. Mari is passionate about guiding others through the mind body awareness that pilates provides. Seeing them connect with their movement and discover their full body potential is a feeling unmatched.
Mari has been a resident of Norfolk for 20 years. Mari and her husband, Alan, have been married for 27 years and have three adult children, Alec, Garrick, and Ellesse. Alan is the Men’s Soccer coach at Old Dominion University where he and Mari also run their own business called Dominion Soccer Academy teaching soccer fundamentals to children.
PIA Licensee, Vicki Pittman, PMA-CPT
Vicki is a native of the Hampton Roads area. She grew up in Virginia Beach in a military family and graduated from Old Dominion University with a Psychology and Dance degree in 2006. Always having a passion for movement, she was involved with numerous performance ensembles in the area. The long hours of rehearsal and physical demands on her body led her to look for something to increase longevity and prevent injury while still continuing the activities she loved. Enter Pilates! After only a few sessions she could feel the difference and realized that not only should everyone be benefiting from Pilates, but that she wanted to help by teaching it! Vicki then completed her comprehensive training in Overland Park, KS in 2008 and is a graduate of Pilates Instructor Academy (formerly PBPIA). Shortly afterwards she was certified through the Pilates Method Alliance in 2009.
As a military spouse who has experienced many relocations across the United States, the extensive training she received at PIA has allowed her to teach at different Pilates studios around the US and become employable immediately upon relocation. Having a portable career with the uncertainties that accompany military life was very important to her and she couldn’t have found a better fit with the Comprehensive training she received at PIA. With the schools focus on critical thinking and anatomy knowledge support of movement, her transition to different studios was smooth regardless of the type/brand of Pilates taught in each studio.
In 2015 she opened her own studio, CoreVelo Pilates, with partner Mari Dawson in Norfolk, VA. Their focus and mission to create a supportive non-intimidating environment for learning, empowering people to move efficiently for a long healthy life, and adapting the Pilates method to their body and natural rhythms instead of forcing them into a Pilates mold.
Vicki currently resides in Norfolk with her husband Jason and two adorable rescue pups, Chloe and Chauncy.
